Vicki's Birthday Celebration

Vicki, my little sister, just turned 17 on July 9th. Man, do I feel old. We made plans a few weeks ago for her to come down on my day off and last Wednesday she drove down so we could hang out. It was beautiful out so we went to Horseneck Beach and walked along the shore. It was hot, the water was warm, and we all thought it would be fun to go swimming but we were all wearing clothes and had no bathing suits with us. Vicki looked at me and said, "Let's do something spontaneous." Instead of running home to change we ran into the ocean fully clothed and played in the surf. It was so much fun. After a little over an hour we noticed that everyone was clearing off the beach and even the lifeguards were packing up. Then we saw the sky. There was a serious storm coming our way. So we dragged ourselves out of the ocean and tried to wring as much water out of our clothes as possible.
We drove into the rain like it was a wall, it was a crazy storm but luckily it passed within ten minutes. I had already bought all the ingredients for an Asian-inspired dinner for Vicki's birthday. We started by making maki sushi rolls with teriyaki chicken in some of them. Yum. Then we made potstickers with ground turkey and vegetable filling. Those were fabulous and it was the first time I've made them. And for a third and final dish we made udon noodles with sauteed ground turkey and bell peppers. The whole meal was not only super fun to make but delicious too!
And to round everything out, while we were watching a movie that night we surprised Vicki with a triple chocolate birthday cake. It was a really fun day and great to spend a whole day with my little sis. :)
