This past week I took a few days off for a mini-vacation. We were planning on doing something back when I asked for the time off but decided because of money, or should I say lack of, we were going to just stay home and relax. Martin proposed that we get up super early and drive down the road to the beach and watch the sun rise. Believe it or not I have never really watched the sun rise in it's entirety. We left our house at 3:30am and went to the beach with mugs of hot coffee and a big blanket. We parked and walked down the beach in complete darkness with only a small flashlight. We sat on the beach and got comfortable under our blanket sipping coffee. Slowly but surely the sky started to lighten around the edges. The seagulls started flying overhead and then the sky began to turn pink and orange. Clouds started rolling in and as the sun started to come up over the horizon it started to rain. So we climbed underneath the blanket and laughed like little kids while it started to absolutely pour. We decided to make a run for it and by the time we made it to the Jeep we were drenched. We drove down to Gooseberry Island and in a few minutes the rain stopped and as we stepped outside and onto the beach the sun came up over the horizon and it was beautiful. We got some excellent photos of the sun rise and the beach.
After an hour or so we jumped back in the Jeep and drove back into town. We stopped at the local Starfish Bakery and got delicious breakfast croissants, parked by the fishing wharf and watched the fishermen come in after their morning run. It was a great start to a great day.
