We planned our first camping trip of the year for Memorial Day weekend at Wompatuck State Park. Martin and I both had a long weekend off of work so we were there for four nights, Friday through Tuesday. We were both pretty excited when my parents and sisters said that they could come too. We haven't been on a family camping trip in quite some time and it was a great weekend.
We went to the Blue Mountain Spring, where we expected to see a "spring" but instead found a small building with two faucets, haha. The park was amazing and not what we had expected with it being so close to Boston. When we first arrived we were driving through a Boston suburban neighborhood and then all of a sudden we were in the middle of a state park with trees all around us as far as we could see. There were countless hiking trails and bike paths and it was one of the quietest campgrounds we have stayed at.
On Sunday when we went hiking we went down to the reservoir along the winding paths and as we started to head back a storm blew in and it started to downpour. Once we realized there was no chance that we were getting back to the campsite without getting drenched we decided to run around in the rain. Beth and I ran through the puddles and laughed as we walked home in our squishy sneakers. We didn't plan on hiking in the rain but it was a ton of fun. The whole weekend was a great start to the camping season.
