You know that anticipation you feel when waiting for snail mail? For me it is ten-fold, not sure why but I LOVE mail. And when it just so happens to be a package coming my way it is like what I imagine it is to have pure caffeine coarsing through my veins. I can't sleep...I think about it at all times...and not-so-patiently await the ringing of the doorbell or the opening of the mailbox. And when it is something I am as excited about as the package I am praying is on it's way...there is no possibility of sleep.
I love photography...ever since I was little I have always had a camera, whether it be a cheapo disposable camera on a field trip, or my first ever 35mm point-and-shoot which I used until it was no longer usable. I have had fantastic luck with my two most recent cameras, both digital point-and-shoot's, but they both serve very different purposes. My smaller Kodak M753 is to keep in my purse at all times, to bring places where I need it to be inconspicuous, and for moments when I'm driving down the road and see the perfect shot. I have loved my larger Kodak Z740 from the moment I opened the box and got it ready for Martin and my first big road trip four years ago. It has grown old quickly, and if you thought dog lives (multiply by 7) went by fast, try camera lives. Digital camera technology has made leaps and bounds in the past few years. Great news, right? Well, not for the average person like me who is not a professional photographer and can not afford to buy the latest and greatest equipment every year, but who wants the best for her precious memories. After four years of taking great shots and being my constant companion for vacations, family get-togethers, dinners, road-trips, and lots more...my trusty Kodak started to struggle the past few months. Just like old people lose their eye-sight, my Kodak was losing it's focus. Sure, I could still get great shots, but the time it was taking was making me miss expressions, funny moments, and close-ups became not possible. And then there was the Christmas picture upload. I was so upset to discover that 2/3 of the photos I had taken were blurry. Christmas is not something that you can re-do. So, after reading, researching, testing out, and scouring the internet for advice, comments, ratings, and deals about a DSLR, I started to plead my case with the husband. I tried the non-chalant approach, I tried the justification, I tried the sad lip, and then, while sitting on his lap like a child, I listed out every reason that was in my crazed head and told him how much my photos mean to me. And being the wonderful man that he is, we talked about it, and he said, "If it is important to you then okay." So as we scrolled through webpage after webpage where I excitedly explained the features and practically drooled over the product details and 360 views, we finally decided on a package from Amazon.
A Canon Rebel XSi, 12.2 MP, digital SLR in black, with a EF-S 18-55mm lens, and since I purchased a package I am also getting all kinds of extras! An extra rechargeable lithion ion battery, which will definitely come in handy since I'm pretty sure this camera is not going to leave my hands for weeks, will be tucked in that much-anticipated package. Along side there should also be a 4G digital sdhc memory card, which should hold several hundred photos, depending on the settings I use. It also comes with a strap to go around your neck, a very convenient USB SD card reader for easy uploading of pictures, a micro-fiber cleaning cloth, image recovery software, and a gadget bag to keep this beautiful camera tucked away and safe when not in use.
A great deal I must say...and that is the package that I am awaiting. And I don't even have a tracking number, because it is through a vendor, so I have just settled for checking the order status about 179 times daily. Estimated delivery: January 8 - January 13. I'm praying for the 8th!!
Any ideas for photo "projects"? I have a few in mind...plenty to do with our beautiful town, my hometown, my beautiful sisters, and maybe a recipe photo run-down every now and again. Do you have a favorite camera? Any advice with this beauty that is coming my way? I'm looking forward to sharing some great photos and can not wait for that doorbell to ring!
