Martin and I went to Newport, RI to tour the Newport Mansions with Martin's Mom, Ron, my Mom, Dad, and Vicki. We bought the three-mansion tickets that allowed us to see the Breakers, the Elms, and Marble House. These were considered "summer cottages" for the people who resided in them during the 1700's and they are freakin' huge! I can't imagine what their homes were like. I would have settled to be the servants. Our tour guide was saying that in the Breakers there were 10-12 servants left there to care for the mansion for the entire year. I want to know if they threw secret parties in that giant house, drank from their cellars of wine and pretended they were rich for those months during the winter. I would probably try on their clothes, jewelry, and go for walks on the grounds. Haha...I could definitely be a servant.
Anyways, we had a great time and even though I was not allowed to take pictures inside the mansions I got some great shots.
