Bedroom

Our bedroom looks exactly how we were hoping it would. It is modern, relaxing, and hotel-like, all at the same time. I guess things started a year and a half ago when we returned from our honeymoon and discovered that we had been officially spoiled by sleeping on a luxurious king-size bed for over a week. We decided a new, luxurious, king-size mattress was going to be our big splurge with our wedding gift money. And we have never regretted that decision. I LOVE our bed, it is one of my favorite places to be. We received our bedding, which includes cream colored sheets with green and blue trim, a green-blue coverlet, with matching accent pillows with a dark brown bed skirt to tie everything together. Last year after working another long day at the good old target it paid off once again when I noticed a set of side tables that had been hidden in the backroom and were 75% off. I bought them on my way out and they looked great. We had the side tables, which were a steal, and looked for a matching headboard but to not avail. Not only were the headboards not what we wanted but they were ridiculously expensive. So Martin started drawing up some ideas. He finally decided on one and put it all together. It looks pretty fantastic and it's great to be able to say, "Yup, my husband made that." He stained it to match the side tables perfectly.
We needed lamps for the side tables because light was definitely an "opportunity". We have a tall sconce lamp in the corner but it is not enough for the entire room. We ventured to Ikea and found these great modern rice paper lamps that were only $8 each. Can't get much better than that! Plus, they are perfect to read by at night.
We moved the beautiful flowy curtains that were in the living room to our bedroom. They bring a romantic air to the room and are so light and airy that they don't block the great natural light we get in our bedroom.
I found a gorgeous blown glass vase at Pier 1 and placed that on our dresser. I put a medium-sized white candle inside and it looks amazing when the light flickers through all the bubbles and glass and reflects off of the mirror right above it.
Just a few changes and some paint and voila!
