So if you know me well, you know that I am an avid fan of the Food Network. If that was the only channel on tv I would be perfectly fine with it. Actually, that would solve some problems, like when Martin wants to watch football for hours on end. Love you hunnie!
So, right now my favorite show is Giada at Home. The set where it is filmed is fabulous and she is always using all kinds of beautiful serving dishes. She has this ceramic salt bowl with a wooden lid and I really like it alot. After hours of searching online I finally emailed the Food Network and was directed to her website and found the company that provides several of her dishes. I wrote to them and found out that the little salt bowl that I love so was a whopping $89! I decided to buy it, then quickly decided I could not justify spending that amount of money on a small bowl, no matter how cute.
Earlier this week, I was at work and walked past this new designer endcap and this beautiful green glass bowl caught my eye. Only $6.99 and perfect size for a salt bowl. No lid...then *idea*, I'll have my fabulously talented husband make me one! I pulled out the bowl made of recycled glass and announced my idea that he could make me a salt bowl instead of me buying one for a ridiculous amount of money. He agreed and on Sunday we stopped by Lowe's and picked out the wood and stain that I wanted. We hung out in the garage for awhile, he measured, sawed, routed, sanded, and stained, all the while I handed him things in between sips of wine. It came out beautiful. I am so lucky to have such a talented husband. It's beautiful and I love it even more than the original bowl I wanted. And now I have that $82 to spend on shoes or even that silky shirt I was eyeing the other day. Ssh...don't tell Martin. :)
