On Friday, December 19, the majority of New England was getting ready for our first big snowstorm. I had the day off and decided it would be a great day to stay inside and bake all day long. So the cookie baking began...I made seven different cookies this year, some old and some new. I make Cherry Chocolate Kisses, Peanut Butter Blossoms, Chocolate Crackle Tops, Chocolate Dipped Snowpeaks, Cinnamon Stars, Peppermint-Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, and Coconut Macaroons. It was alot of cookies but it was alot of fun. Mojave hung out in the sun-room with me, and we watched the snow fall and listened to country music.
Every year I try at least two new cookies and this year I tried the last three cookies listed above. The cinnamon stars are a german cookie that is very festive tasting but I probably won't make again. They were kind of dry and very expensive to make considering they are almost entirely made of ground almonds. The Peppermint-Chocolate Sandwich Cookies were really good but next time I think I will make them smaller. And last but not least, the Coconut Macaroons were a big hit with just about everyone. I dipped half of them in chocolate and they were super good.
We tried to plan a get together with my sisters and my mom to have a girls christmas cookie baking day but it was just about impossible with all of our crazy schedules. Hopefully next year! I am starting a photo journal of Christmas cookies that I am going to add to each year from here on. I think it will be fun to look back on the cookies I made each and every year.
