A Goodbye and a Hello

Goodbye old laptop...hello new laptop. You see, I loved my old laptop, the one I received my junior year in college, that was top of the line several years ago. It managed to last for five years and we had some good times but about 6 months ago I started to notice that it was showing it's age. It was sloooow and could not be unplugged for more than ten minutes, but I was patient with it and it worked fine for my computer needs.

Then it started freezing every once in a while...not a big deal, just had to hold down the power button and wait five minutes to restart. Then random colored lines started to show up out of nowhere on my screen, and they permanently stayed there. Then their friends came to join them, one by one, and there was one part of my screen that was covered with a small part of the rainbow. I worked around the lines...but when it started freezing every time I used it and making loud overheating noises I was officially annoyed. Then last week my laptop took a turn for the worse, it started deleting things. Hmm?? I wasn't sure what was going on, and was very confused when I realized my Microsoft Office was gone...well the shortcuts were there but the programs were having "fatal errors".

Martin and I started researching laptops but didn't plan on buying one right away. Then...I went to download some pictures from my camera (a weekly event for me that takes forever but still worked after 30 minutes of uploading from my SD card) and my laptop sputtered, froze, came back to life, and then told me that there were no such things as USB ports. What?! I restarted, googled, swore (yes, a few choice words came out of my mouth) and then we talked to Anthony. For those of you who don't know, Anthony is my brother in law who knows all about computers; he's basically a computer genius. He regretfully told us that my motherboard was the problem and that it was disconnecting circuits/receptors). Basically, my computer was old and there was no repairing, no fixing, and no going back. No matter how cool a new laptop would be I was sad that I would have to say goodbye to my ancient laptop from my college days. It lasted alot longer than it should have and it was time to move on but I had grown attached to my laptop.
The research ensued and we read hundreds of reviews, specifications, suggestions, and priced out different possible laptops. We happily decided on this fancy (ok, so not that fancy, but compared to the giant elderly laptop I have been using it is FANCY) Asus laptop.
There's all kinds of technical jargon I could throw out there but basically it is AWESOME. I love it.
Here is what it has:
- Intel Pentium Processor (2.2 GHz speed)
- 6-cell lithium-ion battery
- 4 GB memory
- DVD/CD RW drive
- 16" screen
- 500 GB harddrive
- Built-in web cam
- Facial recognition! (not sure how this works yet, but awesome...)
- Digital media reader ( I just pop my camera's SD card in and voila...photos!!)
- 4 USB ports
- Wireless capability and all that jazz
- Windows 7 software
And I got a cute little wireless mouse too. Butterflies! Who knew?

So, sorry for the lack of posts, but look forward to more and soon! Especially since uploading pictures takes about 2.5 seconds!
And I just want to say...Thanks Martin! For doing all the research and bearing with me and answering all the technological questions that I had and picking out this fabulous new laptop. You're the best!
