New Year's Day Tradition

Every New Year's Day Martin jumps in the ocean at Easton's Beach in Newport, RI. Yes, he is insane, along with all the other hundreds of people who also do it. This year there were more people than ever and they actually had the main drag blocked off so there were lots of people who did not make it to the 12 o'clock jump because we were all detoured three blocks away. So we found a place to park and walked to the beach in the freezing cold with sweatshirts, socks, flip-flops, towels, and robes in tow.

Martin, Anthony, and Jacquie ran in and right back out after fully submerging themselves in the freezing cold ocean water. If you look closely they look like they are running from sharks or something equally terrifying.

They were pretty cold when they got out into the wind but once they got towels to dry off Martin said it was the best year. No freezing rain, little wind, and it was fairly warm out for January 1st in New England.

All three of them dried off, we watched some other crazy people jump in, they got dressed and we headed back to the truck and in search of heat and a warm breakfast.
