On Saturday, October 31 we headed to New Hampshire to meet up with my parents and head farther north to the Lakes region where we were going on the Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train. My parents bought us tickets for our anniversary and since their anniversary and my grandparent's anniversary all fall within about a month of each other we decided to celebrate three generations of anniversaries in style. My Aunt Donna and Jack came and so did my great Aunt Irene and Pat. What a fabulous night we had. It was the last train of the season and it was Halloween to boot. The entire crew dressed as Medieval characters.
We all arrived at 3:45pm at the train depot in North Woodstock, NH. There was a gift shop where we looked around while we waited to board the train. It is a two hour, twenty mile train ride along the Pemigewasset River, where we were served a delicious five course dinner.
There were lots of choices and we enjoyed drinks to start off. Many of us tried their special drink of the night, which was a Dragon Slayer. We started off with a giant freshly baked roll with honey butter. We were then served our appetizers, which was an option of braised short ribs with cornbread pudding, seafood chowder, or chicken pate. We all coordinated our ordering so that we got to try just about everything that night. I even tried the chicken pate, so now I can check that off my life list.
Next, we were served a garden salad with a warm creamy dill dressing. And then to cleanse our palate's we were served a lemon-lime sorbet with mint. We were offered three options for our entree. Filet mignon with lamb chops with garlic mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables was one option, the second was stuffed chicken with roasted red peppers, spinach, and goat cheese served with a marsala wine sauce, rice and fresh vegetables, and the third option was salmon with a maple glaze served with rice and fresh vegetables. Nobody from our party ordered the salmon but the two other entrees were delicious.
For dessert we had coffee, tea, and a trio of cheesecake, chocolate mousse, and almond cake.
We had a wonderful time and have lots of great memories. Thank you to my parents for such a great anniversary gift!
