Tasty Fall Treats

Every year we go and pick a lot of apples, get excited about making pies and little desserts...and this year I decided I was going to make gourmet dipped apples. Yum!
I started off by making homemade caramel, putting dowels (that Martin trimmed down to size for me) in the center of each apple, and then dipping the apples in the hot caramel. I let those set and then to make them doubly delicious, I dipped them in melted semi-sweet chocolate, added toffee bits and pecans to the outside, and some were sprinkled with coconut, some were swirled with orange chocolate for a festive touch. They were really fun to make!
And I had bought some extra chocolate so I made a chocolate ganache, chilled the mixture, rolled it into small balls, inserted a long toothpick, dipped them in melted chocolate, toppings, and then chilled them again. Little homemade truffles!
