When I was little camping was a yearly summer event. My sisters and I loved going camping whether we were in a tent or our family's pop-up trailer. Martin and I were talking about our many camping adventures this summer at a family dinner and we came up with the idea that we all go. And by all I mean all 20-something of us on my Mom's side. We started making plans a couple months ago and we all settled on last weekend and decided we would stay at Greenfield State Park Campground in Greenfield, NH. This is a place we have all gone camping before; even my Mom remembers going as a little girl.
We all arrived on Friday in the late afternoon. We had three separate campsites and got settled pretty quickly. Meals were all a group effort and we even ate ALL together a few times. The weather was beautiful and the campground hasn't changed much in the many years it has been open. It brought some wonderful memories back to just about everyone.
We discovered a little friend friday night while we were cleaning up after dinner, a skunk, who hung out with us for most of the weekend. He was so cute and suprisingly didn't smell at all. He couldn't be bothered except to just walk by and glance in our direction. We named him BW.
My grandparents were able to come and they recalled stories from their past around the giant campfire at night. Pep's got to play a few games of cribbage with Anthony and Martin. We went kayaking, canoeing, hiking, swimming, and the list goes on. We toasted marshmallows, laughed alot, and really enjoyed each other's company. We are already talking about next year's camping trip. It is trips like this that make me realize what a wonderful family I have and how blessed I am to be a part of it.
