Our living room was one of the last rooms we updated. We had one wall that was covered with wood paneling and it darkened the entire room. The moment we started priming it we realized we were making a great change. The entire room seems bigger now and the wall that was once old, outdated paneling now appears texturized and modern. The blue-gray color that we chose is called Falling Star. It is beachy and calming and looks great with our living room set that we love so much. We bought our couch, coffee table, and side tables two years ago at Cardi's. The couch is an L-shape but once we painted and moved our furniture around, Martin came up with the fantastic idea to separate the two pieces and make a couch and a "chaise". I found these two pillows that have a tan background, a beautiful floral pattern in a light white screen print, and a bright and summery green trim around the edges. I also found these modern and elegant vases I found at Target (of course) on clearance for 75% off! They are very different and I love how they look right next to each other. They have some great curvature and throw fantastic shadows when we have the lamp on at night.
I found a very simple white planter and planted an indoor palm tree. I have a bowl of seashells and dug out a candle holder that I have had for a few years, and placed seashells in the bottom to bring the beachy theme together. We also went through our boxes in the garage from when we moved last year and found our modern hanging frame. I forgot how much I love this frame and how it is such a conversation piece. And one more thing that we added is this black shadow box set, which I placed a cute white pitcher, sea grass, seashells, and a bottle of 'Cape Cod Air'. Yes, I found this cute little bottle last year at a Christmas Tree Shop store and love how whimsical it is. In the hallway heading upstairs I have a small wooden table and wanted to put a new piece on it. I have been eyeing the new Target designer Orly Kiely pitchers and they finally went clearance; I love the green pitcher and it looks great in the corner with some summery flowers.
Lastly, we moved our curtains upstairs and Martin found these bamboo shades that create privacy but allow a great deal of light in. With the hardwood laminate flooring and the blue, beachy walls it has become so much more of a relaxing place for Martin and I to kick back and relax.
