Martin and I loaded up the kayaks and headed to a reservoir that we both pass every day on the way home from work. It's in Fall River and it's beautiful. There is a dilapidated old castle-like building that we wanted to kayak to and explore. So we packed our lunch, packed the truck, set out early, and ended up driving around the stupid reservoir for at least an hour. There is no fishing, no swimming, and no boating allowed. We finally found a sign and the entire reservoir is enclosed by either fencing or a high stone wall. We debated throwing the kayaks in and trying to shimmy down the stone wall, but then realized that getting out would be much less plausible. So we headed to Somerset and went to the public park with a boat ramp that is on the Taunton River, which is right off of the ocean. The bay had a great current and it had alot of sights to see. Beautiful houses, wildlife, and polite boaters who don't try to mow kayakers down. We found an even smaller bay that is used for clamming and we found a rocky area to sit and have a picnic. It was the first really nice weekend of the season and we spent six long hours out on the water. Great start to the kayaking season.
