On Monday, October 6th, Martin and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary. Martin had a few days off and I also had Monday and Tuesday off. We had planned on just spending some quality time together for Monday, maybe go out to dinner, nothing big. Sunday evening Martin said that he had something to tell me. I had no idea what he had up his sleeve and he proceeded to tell me that he had planned a trip to Boston where we were staying at the Holiday Inn Boston at Beacon Hill, going out to dinner in the North End, and going to see the Celtic Thunder concert. I was shocked and very excited! I had thought we were just spending the day together and that was perfectly fine with me but a trip to Boston that my husband planned all on his own was fabulous! We slept in a bit, had breakfast together, packed up the jeep, and were on our way to Boston. We checked in, got settled in our room, and went for a walk around the city near Beacon Hill. We headed down to Fanueil Hall and Quincy Market where we perused the shops and picked out some areas to explore the next day. After we walked around for a bit we headed back to the hotel to change into our dinner/concert clothes and headed to the North End. Martin told me to pick a restaurant and I picked Cibo, because it was tiny, smelled delicious, and a cute little old couple waved to us from inside and gave us the thumbs up as we looked over the menu outside. As we walked inside, I vaguely remembered eating there. It had to have been before we were even engaged, when we were still in high school. The food was delicious, the wine was oh so good, and it had a very romantic feel. Martin ordered a yummy gnocchi dish and I got linguine and clam scampi.
We headed to the concert venue and got caught up with the crowd that was heading for the Red Sox game on the T. We arrived at the concert right on time and were even upgraded when we checked in and had great floor seats! The music was beautiful and the whole performance was wonderful. We headed home after the concert, walked a bit, hopped on the T and headed back to our hotel.
We had wedding cake waiting for us and we both ate a slice. We had brought our wedding pictures and as we ate wedding cake we looked over pictures and remembered our wonderful wedding day and all the people who made it so special.
The next morning we had breakfast in bed, got packed, checked out, put our bags in the Jeep and decided to stay in Boston a bit longer. We walked through the Boston Gardens, the Boston Park, and just enjoyed each other's company. Of course, when we were in the park Martin found some squirrels. Haha, for some reason squirrels love him. They have even been known to climb up his leg...and no I am not kidding. We got some great pictures and the weather was perfect. It made us realize how lucky we are to have each other and to just be able to spend that kind of day together was so amazing.
We had a first anniversary that we will never forget, and many more to come!
