On Sunday, October 19 Rayna and Clint invited Martin and I to go along with them to the Blackstone Valley River Tour that runs out of Central Falls, Rhode Island. It was a free tour that took us up and down the Blackstone Valley River on the boat called the Explorer. The river was once called America's Hardest Working River and our tour guide talked all about the river's wildlife, their efforts to restore the river, and all of the interesting events that have happened in the Blackstone area. It was a great tour and we even saw some deer hiding in the trees. The foliage was beautiful and I got some great shots.
The driver of the Explorer told us a great story about how they find all kinds of unexpected things in the river such as cars, machinery, tires, old washing machines, and even valuables. He personally found an old safe and after finally getting it out of the muddy river water he got it open and found jewelry and other valuables inside.
It was a great fall afternoon and very cool to hear all about the history of this one particular river and its surrounding area.
